Jane Hunter is a great example for us all.

Thousands of women were housed and trained at the Phillis Wheatley between 1913 and the early 1960s, when black women had become well integrated into the YWCA. As the largest independent institution of its kind, the Phillis Wheatley Association became a model for similar facilities and self-help organizations around the country, under the auspices of the National Association of Colored Women (NACW).
